Moving from WPLoyalty to Wren Loyalty

How to bring WPLoyalty points balances into Wren Loyalty, match your campaign and reward rates, and switch without customers losing points.

WPLoyalty is built around campaigns and rewards, with a lot of choice in both. If you'd like a simpler program, or you're moving to Wren Loyalty for another reason, this guide shows how to carry every customer's points across and keep them worth the same.

For the general approach with any plugin, see how to move loyalty points to a new plugin.

Before you start

  • Back up your database. Wren only reads WPLoyalty's data, but always have a backup.
  • Write down your rates. In WPLoyalty → Campaigns, open your Points for Purchase campaign and note "Customer earns points" and "For each $ spent" (for example, 10 points for each $1). In WPLoyalty → Rewards, open your Points Conversion reward and note the Conversion Rate (for example, 10 points = $1).
  • List your other campaigns. Sign-up, review, referral and birthday campaigns need setting up again in Wren if you want to keep them.
  • Pick a quiet time. While both plugins are active, an order can earn points in both. Keep the overlap short.

Step by step

1. Install Wren Loyalty and leave WPLoyalty active

Install and activate Wren Loyalty. Keep WPLoyalty active until the import is finished.

2. Match your rates

Open WooCommerce → Loyalty → Settings. Under Earning, set Points per currency unit spent to your Points for Purchase number: 10 points for each $1 means 10.

Under Redeeming, set Points needed for each currency unit off to the points in your Conversion Rate. "10 points = $1" means 10. Now a 500-point balance is worth $50 in both plugins.

3. Preview the import

Go to WooCommerce → Loyalty → Import & tools. The WPLoyalty row shows how many points and customers Wren found. Click Preview. Nothing is imported yet.

4. Download the preview and spot-check three customers

Click Download the full list (CSV). It lists user_id, name, email, points_in_wployalty, status, wren_balance_now and wren_balance_after_import for every matched customer. The status shows "Will import", "Already imported (skipped)" or "Skipped: balance is zero or less".

Check three customers against their balances in WPLoyalty. Also compare the number of rows with the number of customers in WPLoyalty. If it's lower, some WPLoyalty emails don't match a WordPress account (see the FAQ).

5. Run the import

Click Import now. Customers are imported once each, so running it again never doubles anyone's points.

6. Check a customer in Wren

Go to WooCommerce → Loyalty → Customers, search for one of your three customers, and open them. The balance should match, with "Imported from WPLoyalty" in the history.

7. Test checkout with a test customer

In a private window, log in as a test customer with points. Use points in the cart or checkout and place a test order. Check the balance went down.

8. Deactivate WPLoyalty

Deactivate WPLoyalty so customers see one program. Wren never changes WPLoyalty's data, so leave it for a few weeks and delete it only when you're sure you won't need it.

After the switch

A short email avoids confused questions:

Subject: Your points have moved

"Hi {first_name}, our rewards program has moved. Your {balance} points came with you and are worth the same. You can use them in the cart or at checkout, and see them on your account page."

FAQ

A customer is missing from the preview. Why?

Wren matches WPLoyalty customers to WordPress accounts by email. If someone has no account, or their account email differs from the one WPLoyalty has, they won't appear. Fix the email on their account, then preview again. Customers already imported are skipped, so it's safe to run again.

I have percentage rewards or free product rewards. What happens to them?

Wren converts points into a fixed money discount, chosen with a slider at checkout. Percentage, free product and free shipping rewards don't have a direct match. Set one fixed rate close to what customers were used to.

What about rewards customers already claimed?

WPLoyalty issues claimed rewards as coupons. Those are no longer points, so Wren doesn't import them. Check how many are still unused before you remove WPLoyalty's data.
